Travelogue meets historical fiction along Turkey's Lycian Way.

  • Did you know the ancient Lycians are thought to have created the first democratic state and were possibly semi-matriarchal?

Ayşe, a 38-year-old mother from Istanbul, decides to tackle the Lycian Way in southern Turkey. She has never camped alone before. As she strikes out into Lycia’s ancient forests, she is on a quest to leave behind the past and find her own truth. But the Lycian Way is steeped in memories. Unknown to Ayşe, she is walking in someone else’s footsteps. 2500 years earlier, when Lycia was an independent state and worshipped the Goddess Leto, the Persian general Harpagos was stomping along the very same road in a bid to take over the ancient world.

Based on the true story of Ayşe Metin and the history of hearsay and half-truths that is the life of General Harpagos.

Ayşe's Trail Reviews
Julia Powers Turkey's for Life
"Three  days to read; that's all it took. For three days I've been lost in time amongst the craggy rocks, bays and mountains of southern Turkey's Lycian Way and, if you read this book, you will be, too."

Natalie Sayin, Turkish Travel Blog.
"The latest book I've read and strongly recommend is Ayşe's Trail.

Pat Yale, Istanbul Time Out
"Bingham does an excellent job in reminding us of a history largely forgotten in the hills above the Turquoise Riviera."

Melissa Maples, Antalya Insider
"If you've ever been to Turkey or ever want to go, this book is and absolute must-read. Spectacular from cover to cover."
